Off We Jolly Go

The day started at 0500 this morning. I would like to say we were woken by the excitement of our forthcoming trip. I would like to say that but the truth is the sound of rain thrashing against the window was the overwhelming factor to our early start. Undaunted we left the marina just after 9. Within a half an hour the sun was out and we were on our way (and no rain for the rest of the day). Amazing! We haveGood Luck messages as we leave the marina and Post delivered direct from a overhead bridge plus countless texts wishing us Bon Voyage. What a memorable day
Saw our first kingfisher at 1.00pm. Ok so it was a pub by Chertsey bridge but one shouldn't be picky. Moored just upstream of Saint Aines in time to watch the Boatrace, get beaten at Scrabble, watch the new Doctor Who and listen to Tony Hancock. The end of a purfick day ( apart from losing at Scrabble).
Hopefully tomorrow night we should be in Marlow but the river is running everso everso fast and going upstream is hard work and painfully slow. The sooner we get on the canals the better. Fingers crossed we don't get "red boarded " tomorrow and get stuck here.

  1. Glad you had a good first day. If you do get red boarded then give me a call if you decided to come back home so I can clean up from the wild party I held at your place last night. May be best to wait until Wed as I am not sure if French Polishers are working over the bank holiday and anyway the carpets won't be dry. ;-)

  3. So relieved for you when the rain stopped!! Sorry we missed you at the marina, but drove like a wild thing to get to Parvis Wharf with 5 minutes to spare! It was so lovely to see 'Weyward Lady' coming round the corner in the sunshine. TLC kindly lent us a fishing net to safely deliver the 'Bon Voyage' card. I had visions of it being blown into the river! Luckily between James and Sue, it was a successful hand over. Hope you like it?!

The river is still in flood here so there may be a few boats from our marina who may get stranded out in Guildford.

Anyway ... a Very Happy Easter to you three, and hope the weather continues to be kind. Did the Easter Bunny deliver??

    Love, A. C. C. & J.

  4. Glad to see you've got off to a flying start. Toby, it was great party. Shame about the elephant though. Did it take long to get it removed?
